1. Acceptance and who we are

This website at tzuchi.org.uk is operated by Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu-Chi Foundation Limited(“the charity”, “we”, “us”), a registered charity in England and Wales, charity number 1050821, with its registered office at 23a Craven Terrace, London W2 3QH. You can contact us at donation@tzuchi.uk. By using this website you accept these terms; if you do not accept them, please do not use the site. If you enter the Tzu Chi UK Charity Lottery, the lottery terms in Part B also apply and, where they differ, take precedence for lottery matters.

2. Changes to these terms

We may amend these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law, in Gambling Commission or Fundraising Regulator requirements, or in how the lottery operates. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last updated. Material changes to the lottery terms will be notified to subscribers by email before they take effect, and no change will apply retrospectively to a draw that has already closed.

3. Permitted use and restrictions

You may browse, download and print material from this site for personal, non-commercial use. You must not: use the site in any unlawful way or in breach of age restrictions; scrape, harvest or systematically extract data from it; attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its infrastructure; introduce malicious code; or interfere with the operation of the lottery entry pages. We may suspend access to the site for maintenance or security reasons at any time.

4. Intellectual property

The content of this site — text, page design, graphics and the Tzu Chi name and emblem — is owned by or licensed to the charity and protected by intellectual property law. Nothing on this site grants you a licence to use any trade mark or logo. You may quote brief extracts with attribution; any other reproduction requires our written consent.

5. Accuracy of information

We take care to keep this site accurate, but information may change: programme descriptions, statistics, ticket prices, prize amounts and draw arrangements can all be revised. The definitive lottery figures are those stated in Part B and on the ticket confirmation at the time you enter. Nothing on this site is financial or legal advice.

6. Third-party links

The site links to third-party websites — including gambling-support organisations such as GambleAware, GamCare and GAMSTOP — for your convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; a link is not an endorsement.

7. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude liability for loss or damage arising from use of the site, including loss caused by viruses or by reliance on its content — except that nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Your statutory rights, including those attached to lottery entries and donations, are unaffected.

8. Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from use of the site, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction — save that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your local courts.

Part B — Lottery terms

These terms govern the Tzu Chi UK Charity Lottery. The operational details in these terms — the registration, ticket price, prize structure and draw arrangements — are as published on the online lottery page; if any of them change, these terms and that page will be updated before the change takes effect.

L1. Eligibility

The lottery is open to individuals aged 18 or over who are resident in the United Kingdom. You must not enter if you are under 18, and age and identity are verified before any prize is paid. Trustees, members of staff directly involved in administering the lottery, and members of their households may not enter. We may require proof of eligibility at any time and may withhold prizes until it is provided.

L2. The promoter

The promoter is Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu-Chi Foundation Limited, registered charity 1050821, registered office 23a Craven Terrace, London W2 3QH. The person designated as responsible for the promotion is Chien Lung Chu, 23a Craven Terrace, London W2 3QH. Licence route and reference: small society lottery registered with Westminster City Council, registration no. SSL0873. The lottery is administered in-house by the charity — no External Lottery Manager is appointed — and is promoted in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005.

L3. Entries

Each entry costs £1. An entry consists of 4 numbers from 1 to 30chosen by you or allocated as a lucky dip. An entry is valid once payment has cleared and a confirmation showing the promoter’s name, the ticket price, the responsible person and the draw date has been issued. Entries must be received by 11pm on Thursdayto be included in that week’s draw; later entries enter the following draw. A maximum of 10 entries per person per draw applies.

L4. Subscriptions

Weekly and monthly subscriptions renew automatically, with payment collected in advance of each period. You may cancel at any time, free of charge, by emailing donation@tzuchi.uk; a cancellation received by the entry cut-off takes effect before the next draw, and any draws already paid for still stand. If a subscription payment fails we will attempt to contact you; no entry is made for a draw that has not been paid for, and repeated failures end the subscription.

L5. The draw

The draw takes place every Friday at 12 noon. Winning numbers are selected using a certified random number generator; each draw is supervised by two members of staff, overseen by the responsible person, and the result is minuted. Results are published on the winners page the same day, in a privacy-safe format.

L6. Prizes

The prize structure, with exact odds for the 4-from-30 format:

• First prize — match all 4 numbers: £2,500, odds 1 in 27,405 per entry.
• Second prize — match 3 numbers: £100, odds 1 in 264 per entry.
• Third prize — match 2 numbers: £10, odds 1 in 14 per entry.

The top prize sits within the prize cap that applies to small society lotteries. Winners are notified by email within three working days and prizes are paid by bank transfer after age and identity verification. Prizes must be claimed within 90days of the draw; unclaimed prizes are applied to the charity’s purposes. We never ask a winner to pay anything to receive a prize.

L7. Void entries

An entry is void, and any prize withheld, if it was made by a person under 18 or otherwise ineligible (stakes for under-18 entries are returned); if payment failed or was reversed; if it duplicates another entry beyond the entry limit; or if it was received after the cut-off, in which case it rolls to the next draw rather than being void. The promoter’s decision on validity, made reasonably, is final, subject to the complaints process below.

L8. Self-exclusion

You may self-exclude from the lottery at any time by emailing donation@tzuchi.uk. Self-exclusion lasts a minimum of six months, during which we refuse your entries, cancel subscriptions and remove you from lottery marketing. L9. Where the money goes

Of every £1 entry, at least 60p funds the charity’s programmes, around 25p funds prizes and around 15p covers administration — a split of 60% to the cause, 25% to prizes and 15% to costs. The law requires at least 20% of the proceeds of each society lottery draw to be applied to the society’s purposes; our split will always meet or exceed that minimum.

L10. Suspension or cancellation of the lottery

We may suspend or cancel a draw where required by law, by a regulator, or by events outside our reasonable control. If a draw is cancelled, entries for it are either entered into the next draw or refunded at your choice. If the lottery closes permanently, outstanding subscription payments for future draws are refunded.

L11. Complaints and disputes

Complaints should be sent to donation@tzuchi.uk. We acknowledge complaints within five working days and aim to resolve them within twenty. Unresolved disputes about the outcome of a draw may be referred free of charge to our appointed alternative dispute resolution provider, the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS). Fundraising complaints may be escalated to the Fundraising Regulator as described on our contact page.

L12. Data protection

Personal data provided with an entry is used to run the draw, pay prizes and meet our legal obligations, as described in our privacy policy. Entering the lottery is not consent to marketing; marketing preferences are collected and managed separately.
